Fieldtrip Report:

Little Pine Garnet Mine,
Madison County, N.C.,
March 29th, 2005

Hello members, I thought I would do a report of the fun fieldtrip we had to the Little Pine Mine Tuesday, we had a few members of our club along with our Wisconsion members Melvin and Carolyn, we also had our friends from Illinois back to Asheville for another day of collecting. We all met at the usual location (The Armadillo Rockshop) and proceeded to the mine, once we arrived, John D. and I showed our guests the various locations to collect etc.

Our Wisconsion members, Melvin and Carolyn.

Georgia and Dave from the Illinois Club.

George and Nancy from the Illinois Club.

I went to my favorite location in the mine to find my garnets, Melvin decided to join me and within a little while we were both finding some nice specimens.

I was happier than a pig in poop when I uncovered my largest crystal of the day.

Garnet still in matrix.

Melvin showing his baseball size specimen found in the mine.

I was proud to say that I have not hit my hand with a hammer in about 8 years, I WAS proud to say that until today, I was busy running my mouth to Mel when I managed to remove the end of one finger and the nail, ok, I'm exaggerating, it will take at least a week for the thing to fall off 8^(

Melvin getting a chukle out of my squashed finger, i'm just glad I was able to brighten his day 8^).

Other than my bit of bloodletting, everyone had a great time, we all came home with many nice specimens, along with my big garnet, I managed to remove a couple of more baseball size specimens along with the usual pile of smaller pieces.

Yet another great fieldtrip with some great new friends!
