Tiffany
Amethyst Mine This mine located in the Western North Carolina mountains was once mined by Tiffany and Company for gem grade amethyst. The entrance is a 20 foot vertical shaft that leads to stacked horizontal tunnels, adits or shafts. These tunnels extend approximately 60 feet in the mountain with another vertical shaft extending 30 feet upwards from the center of the upper tunnel. Veins of amethyst can still be located but I would say that this not a safe mine to collect in. I have left out the location of this site due to the unsafe nature of the mine. This 20 foot vertical shaft leads to the mine entrance. The mine entrance, two horizontal tunnels or shafts. Lower tunnel Upper tunnel Vertical shaft extending into the ceiling about 30 feet from the center of the upper tunnel. |
