"Big Hill"
Cornwall, Pennsylvania

________________________________________

East of Harrisburg, PA. is the former iron mining district at Cornwall. On old US 322 follow the signs to the Cornwall furnace Historic Site, turn right at "Cornwall Furnace" sign, look for a pulloff just down the road on the left. Walk about 200 ft. to the base of the "Big Hill" mine dumps. You will find: magnatite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, garnet, chrysocolla, aragonite, chlorite, tremolite, actinolite, phlogopite, quartz, orthoclase, rhodocrosite, copper, hornblend, diopside, augite, serpentine, prehenite, heulandite, gypsum, natrolite, and more. I have visited this site several times and have always found plenty of nice material.
