Fieldtrip Report:
Wood's
Creek Rehab Report 1,
Haywood County, N.C.,
March 30th, 2005
Hello members, I will be posting ongoing reports from the Wood's Creek site to show the progress we are making and to document the improvements to the site, we met with several M.A.G.M.A. members today along with our Illinois friends on their last dig with us, it was very nice of them to participate in our cause at this site and to lend a hand in cleaning up the area, Thanks guys and gals!. As I said before, it is not all work, we are opening new collecting areas each day that we are at the site. We decided that instead of the club showing up the first weekend and having to dig through a foot of deep rooted grass and weeds, we would try to remove some of the overburden first, we arrived with chainsaws and shovels and began the work.

Above pics: some of the brush and weeds and briar bushes that have taken over most of the creekbed and at the entrance to the mining area.

This is actually the creek even though you can't see it for the grass and weeds, the large willow tree in the background is going to be removed and will be one of the prime new collecting areas.

The once operating flume is now overgrown with brush, Branson Wood plans to open a small rockshop in the barn in the background.
Branson's dog.

A rare sight, Steve Penley working!
