Fieldtrip Report:

Savannah River Agate and Artifact Trip
South Carolina
November 15th - 18th, 2007

photos by: Sandy Jones and Rick Jacquot

This was one of my most enjoyable MAGMA trips ever!. Why was it so great?. First, it was a new location that I or many of the other members had not visited before, second, it was one of the most prolific sites I have ever seen, and third, we had a fantastic group of diggers in attendance!

Sandy and I left Asheville on Thursday morning to meet the rest of the members at the Lakeview Plantation in South Carolina, this was to be our base camp for the weekend. The plantation was great, it offered clean campsites, restrooms and shower houses, and an opportunity for our members to collect a variety of artifacts ranging from colonial, civil war, and more recent times. All you needed was a good metal detector to find the goodies...

Luther on the hunt

Some of Luthers finds:

Luther found this ring buried in the road in front of where I was camped.

Above: mini ball from the civil war and a colonial button, both found by Luther on the plantation property.

Leonard found a nice old 1883 penny:

Buddy showing off an old hoe and axe found at an old home site.

I tried metal detecting one day, I found a hand forged pitch fork about three feet behind my truck buried in about 5 inches of sand in the parking lot, that was my great find of the weekend for artifacts!
