With respect to my rockhounding hobby participation, I guess I'm really lucky since I have, for the past 20 years, operated my own engineering practice here in Raleigh. I have found that I am able to take off more and more as MAGMA offers more and more great outings.
I am a Civil Engineer and I provide engineering services in the design of potable water and wastewater systems for residential developments. Since I have been in business, I have designed utility systems for developments from Nags Head to Cashiers. My primary area of service is in the design of wastewater treatment facilities. For the past several years, it seems as though these facilities are of the type that treat the generated wastewater from homes within subdivisions and then irrigates the clean effluent water back on lands within the development. In the case of projects with a golf course, the treated water will be used as spray irrigation on the fairways and roughs. For these systems, there is no release of treated wastewater to the state's surface waters or to a municipal wastewater treatment facility.
