Hello to all! I am actually a professional geologist in several states (NC, VA, SC, GA, FL, TN, etc.). B. S. and M.S. in Geology from East Carolina University. "Argh!" Sorry, pirate talk. Did my masters field work in West "by god" Virginia.
As my monaker states I am from eastern North Carolina (Greenville to be exact). I am quite a long way from most of the MAGMA and Dirty Rockhound field trips, and therefore, I have not been on any as of yet. You know, work, family, sleep, then repeat. I hope to get to some this year. I do enjoy the field trip reports though.
Currently I conduct soil and ground water investigations for various contaminants such as petroleum (local gas stations, home heating oil tanks) and some haz waste, trying to clean up everyones mess. I also conduct pre-purchase property assessments for commercial real estate. Recently I have been involved in indoor air quality investigations and cleanups such as mold.
I also teach Physical Geology at Pitt Community College. This is what I call my mental health time.
I have been a mineral collector 35 years and have been associated with several clubs over the years. Not currently a card carrying member though. I need to join up again. Most of the clubs have field trips more in my neck of the woods. I am also trying to start a club in my area.
I collect some but not as much as I used to. I also buy and sell minerals. I hope to be launching a mineral web-site this year.
Well, that sums me up pretty well.
