Fieldtrip Report:

Little Pine Garnet Mine
Madison County, N.C.
January 19th, 2008

We had a great trip for the first official M.A.G.M.A. dig of the 2008 season. Members from North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida showed up to brave the cold and collect garnets. I worked inside the mine as always while the others worked outside on the new dump piles created by Jackie Ball and his crew. The cold got to the group early and everyone was gone by noon. I stayed and dug the rest of the afternoon and hit into a good quantity of nice size garnet crystals and clusters. I forgot my camera, so all I have are specimen pics. Below is a pic of the crystal I gave Sandy when I got home.

You can see more of the specimens I found on the "For Sale" page under "Garnets".
