Fieldtrip Report:
Greenwater with Doug!!!
Sept 25, 2005_________________________________
Well, life gets in the way...we went agate hunting a week ago Thursday and I just got time today to sit down and write a report!!!DH and I met another wonderful couple from Dirtyrockhounds last Thursday. Our trip started out to be just the 2 couples and grew to include Bob, the Iraq soldier I have written about before, Ed who is our Washington State Mineral Council Wagonmaster and a newby out on her first rock dig.
Ed and Carol. Carol is on her first field trip.
Doug, Ed and Beth and some sort of giant woodchuck holes (lol).
We all met at a restaurant in Enumclaw for breakfast and then hit the road. We first stopped at what is known as the White River Thunderegg Site. I had never been there and after looking at the almost vertical clay bank where the eggs are located, I still have never collected there. I stayed down on the riverbank and picked up driftwood and watched river ducks (mergansers?). Everyone else went up into the slippery mud and collected these little eggs. Then we went on towards Mt. Rainier and turned onto the logging roads and went to a fairly new agate collecting site. Each of us got into a hole and soon agates started making their appearance. And I mean AGATES. Hundreds of pounds big.
Bob cleaning out the hole from last trip. Behind to the left of the yellow pack is my DH in the blue plaid shirt.
Bob's agate. It is between the shovel and the pick.
Another view of the agate, hard to see because the colors are all the same.
Doug had a wonderful time, I think, digging for the large hunks of agate material.
Happy Doug with his treasures.
A closeup of some fine, glassy colored agate.
DH looking out of the brush. Otherwise known as Sasquatch!! LOL .
Vine maple starting to color up in the Cascades. Fall is arriving!!
We visited, had a picnic lunch off the tailgate of our truck, inspected bear and coyote scat, enjoyed a nice day out in our woods. Doug and Beth wanted to see our elusive Mt. Rainier. Don't think they did prior to leaving on their cruise, but yesterday and today have been clear as a bell and they were getting off their cruise boat in Vancouver, B.C. and driving down to Seattle. They should have been able to see many of the Washington mountains, Baker, Glacier, Pilchuck, Rainier, etc. Depending on when they flew out today, they maybe saw Adams and St. Helens as well from the air.
The rogue's gallery that day. Bob, Me, Beth, Doug, Carol, Ed. Stu took the picture.
