Fieldtrip Report:

Annual M.A.G.M.A. Fall Fluorescent Mineral Dig!
October 20th, 2007

After working the top level for about an hour, we moved the club to the lower level, it turns out this area had never been worked. The ground lit up with millions of pieces of tiny hyalite fragments, it wasn't long before we hit the good stuff. I think everyone found at least one or two 5 gallon buckets of nice material. Here are a few pics of the stuff I dragged home:

This piece has me stumped?, The other pieces I collected had at least a 1/4" thick coating of the opal, while this piece shows no evidence of opal at all in regular light, but under UV it is brilliant, I wonder if the opal may have formed inside the feldspar?

Below are two pics of Thomas Davis' finds:

Torbernite

I hauled out about a bucket and a half of nice hyalite like what is pictured above, this was Sandys first night dig, she liked the pink feldspar, so we hauled another bucket of that home as well, I think everyone found some great material for their collections, I can't wait till next years dig!
