Fieldtrip Report:
Durham Coal Mine
Fossil Hunt
Near Lookout Mountain Tennessee
February 9th, 2008Another great trip to a new site for the MAGMA club! We left Friday morning to meet with the caretaker at the mine site. He showed us around and advised where the best collecting would be. He put us on a great spot, and it showed by the end of the day Saturday. There were around 30 members who attended this trip and I doubt anyone went home empty handed. I saw truck loads of fossils going home with some members.

Steves Mom and Dad were down from Jersey for the trip.

We had MAGMA member Kim Cochran with us, who identified everything we found. I have since forgot everything he said and will have to name this stuff later. I did remember that these fossils are from the Pennsylvanian period, 380 million years ago.
