Fieldtrip Report:

Diamond Hill Mine,
Antreville, S.C.,
February 12th, 2005

I will start this report by saying thank you to our M.A.G.M.A. member and Gaston County Club President Doug Dover for setting up this fantastic trip and inviting our club to join in the festivities. We had around 30 members of the clubs participate in one of the most productive trips to this site in quite a while. Since the new owner has taken over, this location is once again becoming one of the favorite collecting sites on my list and many others, by bringing in heavy equipment and opening up new areas, collecting has improved 100%. Known for a variety of quartz crystal types, smoky, skeletal, phantom, amethyst and more, there are also many rare microminerals to be found. Many talk about the cacoxenite micros, but as Curtis Allen pointed out, there are many other species there also.

The landscape today has changed drastically as compared to five years ago.

It was great to see members of the other clubs that I had not seen in a while, we also were lucky to have our M.A.G.M.A. member GeodePat from Florida come up to collect with us.

GeodePat and her new Rockpup "FoxyLady".

Foxy is pretty easy to keep track of, hook her to a small sledge and she stays put.
