Fieldtrip Report:

Crabtree Emerald Mine
Rehab Report 1
6-3-06

Went to the Crabtree mine today to continue with some of the cleanup and brush cutting that was started last week. I met with Steve Davis, Jim Ellis, Grant Kidd, and Bob Taylor at the mine around 10:30. First we started by digging out the gully that used to be the road and installed a 12" diameter culvert pipe.

Eddie McGee

One of the old time miners from the area, Eddie McGee stopped by to talk with us and see what we were doing, he has lots of stories about collecting at the mine back in the 30's and 40's.

This is a pic of the area at the top of the mine where the ore cart track lays.

Soon after getting the pipe in place, we were busy cutting many trees and brush.

We were joined an hour or so later by Steve Penley, Dave and Nilda Hillhouse, and one of our new members Lonnie.

Steve, Jim, Bob, and Dave went to work on the hill next to the ore cart track, cutting away trees and brush.

After removing a ton of brush, you can now clearly see the tracks, and old winch on the hill, we left a couple of rhodos and hemlock trees.

The water was fairly clear and you could see the steel plate covering the entrance to the mine.
