Fieldtrip Report:

Crabtree Emerald Mine,
Spruce Pine, N.C.
December 7-9, 2007

Hello all. This report is going to be short and sweet!. I was the only one taking pics for the weekend and also the only one running the trackhoe, since someone else (Ed) did not show up.

We started off Thursday evening with several MAGMA members setting up camp at the mine, I did not arrive until Friday morning. The digging started around 11:00 Friday morning and continued through Sunday afternoon. I saw a lot of great material being found, and we dug deeper into the dumps than before. I wish I had more specimen pics to show what was found, if any of you found a nice piece, take a pic and send it to me.

Dick Wills showing off some of his emerald.

Thomas stopped by and we took a drive over to Spruce Pine to see one of his faceted stones from the Ray Mine.

Rob

New member David Barker from West Virginia found a few nice big beryl specimens, they resemble material from the Ray Mine.

We had a fantastic turnout from the members with over 60 people on Saturday. If you have some pics to add to the report, email them to me at rick@wncrocks.com .
