Hello members, we had another great trip this past weekend to Charleston to hunt for fossils. Our M.A.G.M.A. member Jerry Fortenberry led the trip and guided us to numerous excellent locations to collect a variety of very nice specimens. Jerry, Tena, John D. and I left Friday for Charleston, we arrived that afternoon and Jerry led us to a location in Summerville, S.C. to get in an afternoon of collecting before hunting for a hotel for the night.
We spent the afternoon collecting a variety of fossils to include: shark teeth, ray teeth, horse teeth, etc.
I collected this partial auriculatis tooth at the site.
My favorite fossil of this trip was one that Jerry gave me, an excellent horse tooth fossil that he found at the Summerville site.
Above pics of horse tooth that Jerry Found.
Tigershark tooth found at the Summerville site.
I found a few of these pieces of phosphate with holes in them at the site, I thought they were unusual so I kept them, I have been told they may be Indian sinkers used for fishing?
We only had a couple of hours to hunt at this location before it started to get dark, we packed up and headed to a hotel for the evening, after cleaning up, Jerry took us to a great restaurant called Dukes to eat dinner, excellent food!
