Field Trip Report:

Buck Creek, Lake Chatuge, Grimshawe Mine
Dec. 26,27,28,29, 2003

The field trip to Buck Creek, Lake Chatuge and the Grimshawe was a great success, we started off Friday night with David H., RJ and myself camping at Buck Creek.

David Hillhouse chilling at the camp.

Saturday morning we headed to the Herbert Mine to collect corundum where we were joined by members Jerry and Tina F. from S.C., we spent the day here collecting corundum from the creek.

David and RJ outside an abandoned corundum mine.

We built a fire to keep warm, that evening we camped at Buck Creek again, Sunday morning we were all at Lake Chatuge ready to hunt, everyone found numerous nice sapphires and a few rubies. We left the lake that evening and headed to the Grimshawe.

Everyone met Monday morning at the mine and we were joined by John D. and Marvin.

We spent the rest of the day collecting nice small hex sapphire crystals from the site, altogether several pounds of corundum was collected, another great trip although a bit cold at times 8^)
