Field Trip Report:

Buck Creek,
Clay County, N.C.
June 29th-July 4th, 2005

I finally decided that nothing was going to jump out of the creek and bite me so I joined Pat screening in the creek.

As I said before, red or pink sapphire is hard to find at the Herbert Mine but Chris managed to find this nice piece.

I found the usual few pounds of yellow stained and white corundum with a hint of gray/blue.

Blue and white corundum crystal in matrix.

After spending the day at the Herbert we headed back to camp to cleanup and get ready for dinner and the evenings activities.

Lee and Scott getting ready for dinner.

It is obvious from this pic that Lee is a well rounded M.A.G.M.A. member who has an appreciation for fine food!

While in the process of cooking dinner we had our first shower of the weekend, it lasted about an hour but it didn't slow Lee down.

Fine dining is not a problem for M.A.G.M.A. members in the rain when the umbrella is used properly.

Ernie "I ain't going out there!"
