Time for yet another report on yet another great trip with the club. The trip for me began on Friday morning, I left around 9:00 a.m. to meet with our M.A.G.M.A. member Eric Horton, we had been asked to participate in the judging of the mineral displays at the Charlotte Gem and Mineral show. We arrived at the show and found the American Federation Judge already hard at work examining the different cases, we spent the afternoon judging and checking out all the great stuff for sale by the dealers. Afterwords Eric had to head back to Asheville, I went to Doug and Beth Dovers for dinner and to spend the night, Doug makes a mean pot of spagetti!, we ate and then watched the classic movie "Slingblade", did you know there are peckers in potted meat?!. The next morning came early at 5:30 a.m., Doug left to meet with the Gaston Club that were headed to Pacolet S.C. for their quarry trip, I went for breakfast and then to the meeting spot to get with the M.A.G.M.A. club members. As usual we had a large turnout for the trip to include several new M.A.G.M.A. members. Denny was leading the trip, at a little after 9:00 we caravaned to the Bowers Farm to collect limonite pseudomorph cubes after pyrite. After a brief hike we arrived at the digging spot which is located on a pipeline cut in the woods, collecting is simple, pick a spot and dig until you hit the hard rock, then break the rock and look for the limonite. Denny, myself and one of our new members Leslie Poston dug in the same hole for a few hours and found several nice pieces. The rest dispersed throughout the area and dug more holes.
