Dive Certification Classes
Jerry Fortenberry is a certified I.D.E.A. dive instructor. I.D.E.A. or, International Diving Educators Association is one of the oldest dive schools in the U.S. which was formed in Florida. Jerrys class will teach you all you need to know to become an open water certified diver. Jerry focuses on safety and makes it the number one priority when teaching his students.
When you enroll in the class, the first step is a four hour classroom session.
You will cover the I.D.E.A. course manual, plus learn many helpful tips derived from the experiences of the teacher (Jerry).
Next the class will conduct several hours of training at the local swim center in Spartanburg where you will learn how to use your dive equipment and get used to the various aspects of SCUBA.
Then its back to the classroom to do more bookwork and learn your dive tables. After the classwork is completed, it back to the pool to continue working with the dive equipment and practice for your checkout dives.
Once Jerry feels confident that you are ready for your checkout dives, it off to Ginnie Springs in Florida!
Jerry prefers to use the Ginnie Springs facility because of the crystal clear water and the well equipped dive shop. Ginnie Springs has been a SCUBA resort for many years and is a favorite for new and veteran divers alike. The resort offers camping, clean bath houses, tubing, shaded pavillions with picnic tables, and for the diver there are some of the most extensive underwater cave systems anywhere, as well as fossil and artifact diving opportunities in the nearby Santa Fe River.
Ginnie Springs
Once in the springs, you will have time to practice your skills and get ready for your checkout dives.
Jerry will be there with you the whole time to help with any problems that may arise and to help you perfect your diving techniques. Once you have passed your checkout dive tests in the spring, you will return to camp to complete a 100 question written certification test. If you pass, you will receive your temporary certification card and then you're free to explore the new world of SCUBA!
