2008 Dive Schedule
All classes held in Spartanburg
May 4 – Film School 101. This is a one day crash course about how to shoot good video. Bring your camcorder. I may have one or two available for use, if needed. Learn part of what I did at the Travel Channel Academy. 0930 – 1530. No charge. Space available.May 9-11 – Open Water Class. Learn to scuba dive. The class starts Friday evening. We continue all day Saturday and about half a day on Sunday. Checkout dives will be in Florida at Ginnie Springs May 19 – 20. We will stay an additional two or three days to dive for fossils and shoot a movie. Food, travel and motel are not included in price. Included in the cost is your gear rental, air fills, entry fees to the pool and park, instructor insurance, training manual, workbook, dive tables and your photo certification card. The cost is $385.00. Only one more space available so email asap if you are interested. The lecture and pool sessions are held in Spartanburg, SC. Deposit required 10 days before class starts. You will receive your training materials with the deposit. All materials must be read and viewed prior to starting class. The workbook must be completed prior to start. We have a lot of material to cover and you need to be prepared when you arrive.
May 17 – Advanced Open Water Class. 0930 – 1530 with a break for lunch. This class means that you have had additional training. It does not mean that you are an advanced diver. Included in the price of the class are two dives at Lake Jocassee, date to be decided by water temperature. I will furnish tanks, air and the charter boat for the two dives. You must have a minimum of 15 dives including limited vis/night, uw navigation, deep dive and a rescue dive. You must complete course work and convince your instructor that you have good scuba skills. Short of dives? Take the course anyway. You will probably have the minimum before summer is over and I can issue your “C” card when complete. Cost: $85 paid at least one week in advance. Upon payment you will receive the training materials. All training materials must be completed before coming to class. Space available.
May 19-22. Ginnie Springs, Florida. Video shoot. Dive for fossils in the Santa Fe River. This is a walk in, drift dive. We always find lots of goodies here. No charge to join us. Make your own reservations, bring your gear and dive. Space available. This trip may be replaced with a trip to the Cooper, depending on tides. June 1 – TBA
June 6-8. Cooper River fossil and artifact dive. Video shoot. Charter only. You furnish your own food, room and tanks. We will stay in Goose Creek at the Days Inn. Three dives per day. Some of these three days are already sold out. Limited space may be available for Sunday. Email me for availability. Cost: $75. per day. I have tanks for rent if you so need. This dive is for very advanced divers only. Totally solo diving with extremely limited visibility, gators, current, mud balls, under cuts, etc. This is the greatest diving on earth but is not for casual sport divers. You must sign a release form. Note: 6/10/08 - Those who missed this trip missed a great one. We found the goodies. Look for a report on my website.

June 28-29. North Carolina shark tooth and fossil dive. We found the biggies last time out. This is an over night trip. We will sleep on the boat Friday night and head to Meggie Ledge early Saturday morning. Two fossil dives and one lobster/spearfish dive on Saturday. Sleep on the boat taking turns for the night watch. Two more fossil dives on Sunday then return early to help wash and clean the boat. This trip is sold out. Reserve a place in case someone cancels. Cost: $360. You furnish your own tanks and deco bottles. This is a deep dive and not for tourist divers. *
July 12. Graveyard dive at Lake Jocassee. This is a deep dive in very cold water. I recommend a drysuit. We will dive the graveyard in the scene from Deliverance. We will also hit the junk or do a wall dive just to say we did it. Tanks for rent including low pressure steel 120’s for the graveyard thing. I will hang a Nitrox deco bottle for all qualified, to use. The pontoon charter is $20 per day for two or three dives, if you wish. I furnish snacks and soft drinks. Limited space available.
July 19-20. NC shark tooth diving. Again, this is an over night trip with a total of four dives for fossils and an optional dive for lobster and spear fishing. Same deal as the June trip. This is also sold out but reserve a space just in case. We have four dates for this dive and all are sold out. We are trying to book additional dates so email for availability. *
August 6-10. Cooper River. Video shoot. Same deal as Cooper above. Some days are already sold out but others are available. Email me for a seat. Cost: $75. per day.

I hope to squeeze in a NC ruby and sapphire dive. The ruby dive is one day unless we really hit the good stones. Email for possible spot as this is already full and I haven’t even set the dates yet.
TBA –Colonial Plantation dive in Georgetown, SC. This is a new site. I have never been diving here but found several gallon zip lock bags full of Colonial era artifacts while walking along the bank. Full. Reserve a space in case someone drops out at the last minute. No charge but I will accept donations for the boat and truck gas expenses. Video shoot.
My job requires me to be available 24/7, for the most part. As a result, any and all trips are subject to cancellation or change. Join us when possible. Check my site often for changes to this schedule.
* These dives have been cancelled due to illness. Our friend who was taking us on these trips was just diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemo. We hope Danny recovers soon. I know he is anxious to go diving and we look forward to splashing with him soon.
